INFORMATION GATHERING FOR TPAC SURVEY

A note from Reuben at TPAC for clarification:

We asked organizations who normally apply to TPAC. The stipulation in them receiving funding from us, should we receive NEA monies for regranting, is that they cannot have also received NEA monies from the Recovery funds this year. See http://www.arts.gov/grants/apply/recovery/index.html, 3rd paragraph. In other words, no double dipping from the Recovery funds.

In other words, part two, if they received NEA funding in other years before this one, that’s fine, they could apply for TPAC NEA monies.

Other arts organizations that aren’t in our granting pool are welcome to send us their NEA funding information as well.

The other stipulation for the NEA regranting, again, should we receive it, is that the awards would have to go toward the support of staff positions or artist fees – in other words=2 0– towards work force development.

We are asking orgz for their NEA funding history in anticipation that, in our application to the NEA, we might demonstrate a preponderance of organizations that have not received money from the NEA in the last 4 years. TPAC could then make the argument that an award to TPAC would trickle down to organizations that don’t normally receive federal funding. It’s just one thought we’re developing.

UPDATE ON GREEN JOBS INITIATIVE

In May, a long-term structure will be formed, which could be an open committee- “Tucson Green Jobs and Sustainable Community Coalition”. The intention is to bring in the Apollo Alliance, Environmental Groups, and Arts & Culture. The goal is to examine where our dependencies lie and make non-controversial cases for integrating the arts. There is a need for buy-in and establish a precedent.

60% will go to the State, 40% will go to local areas

$200k may be available through TPAC

OUR LETTER WRITING CAMPAIGN (Recap)

TONY’S NOTES (Thanks, Tony, for sending them to us!!!):

NO CUTS TO THE ARTS: Flat line the funding for Tucson Pima Arts Council and Pro Neighborhoods!

Click this link to send your comments:

Destination: http://www.tucsonaz.gov/contact.html

Bullet Points for your letter:

- TPAC needs flat funding – previous cuts and lack of increases to support expanding programs make further cuts detrimental to structural capacity
- There will be one or more waves of stimulus funding – if we don’t preserve the integrity of the operational structures we have in place to redistribute these funds, what are we doing?
- Focus on TPAC, PRO Neighborhoods
- Intrinsic Value: People want to invest in themselves, art brings down crime (especially juvenile) – create social clusters  to commercial sector – sense of place, performance, contribute to economy, tourism, community development, arts support Tucson + healthy living (spiritual, emotional, psychological)
- Metrics from Pimaculturalplan.org -> Arts & Economic Prosperity Report
(check: http://pimaculturalplan.org/pcc/pages/resources.php)
- University of Pennsylvania – Social Impact of the Arts Project ( http://www.ssw.upenn.edu/SIAP/ ) Mark Stern – coming in May
- Alternative Energy (and related crises): Problem solving skills – artists + creativity resolves this issue -> redirect money to communities instead of Big Oil
- Creativity, compassion, empathy & love are the fuel – truly renewable resources
